PROBLEM: The busy employees of a major commercial insurance broker needed a better way to learn about insurer products and services than reading the many flyers and brochures they received in the mail.
SOLUTION: To centralize the flow of information and make it easier for employees to keep abreast of new developments in the field, I designed and wrote MarketNews, a monthly newsletter that included brief summaries of new products and services and industry news. The indexed publication made the jobs of 80 account executives easier.
PROBLEM: I was asked to redo the recruitment booklet sent to prospective college students who majored in Risk Management.
SOLUTION: After updating various statistics that highlighted the company’s ample financial prowess, I decided to give the book a more personal touch by including profiles for various level executives that included individual career paths and personal quotes about working at the company. The finished booklet was such a hit that it was adapted by the company’s corporate office.
PROBLEM: Bellevue Hospital Center had to “wow” a site team visiting from its Clinical Research Center’s granting agency, the National Institutes of Health.
SOLUTION: I wrote a speech highlighting the collaboration between multiple levels of government, the private sector, and facilities across the country working to treat diseases such as AIDS and cancer. The speech was a huge success and the grant was renewed.
PROBLEM: Legal Aid Society’s Prisoners’ RIghts Project alleged that patients in Bellevue’s prison unit were treated poorly.
SOLUTION: I researched and wrote a 40-page white paper refuting the allegations made by the Legal Aid Society. The paper contributed to a successful JCAHCO accreditation of the hospital and was also used as the hospital’s response to press inquiries.
